This week… Welcome back to a new half term. This week in English, we were learning about how to write instructions. We learned about time words to help sequence our instructions and about imperative (bossy) verbs. After working on our instructions all week today we followed them to see if we could successfully make our sandwich. Our instructions were amazing and our sandwiches were even better.
In maths this week, we have been looking tens and ones and how to make these numbers using tens and one blocks. We continued our maths learning outside when we used sticks and rocks or leaves in forest school to represent different numbers.
Spelling & Homework
Over the next few weeks we will be ensuring we know our high frequency words so we are confident when writing. Please learn these spellings for next week.
- saw -make -one -them - down
Please keep reading regularly at home and practise your Times Tables.
This week we have been reading:
The Far Away Tree by Enid Blyton and lots of other short stories from our reading corner.
Next week… As next week is World Book Day we will be exploring lots of beautiful books and sharing our favourites with our class and the teachers around the school. We will use our World Book Day book as our focus for English for the week. We then have an exciting day planned on Thursday with lots of fun activities as well as a few surprises.
In Maths we will continue with our number work and begin to look at length and height. Maybe over the weekend you can start to compare different things around your house and discuss with your adults how you measure different things and why it is an important skill to learn.
Have a great weekend,
Miss Equere and the Year 1 team.
