Year 2 Learning Note 11.9.20

This week… What an amazing first week back! Year 2 have blown me away this week. We arrived on Monday morning happy and ready to start a new year after such a long time off. We then very quickly settled into our new routine and new classroom. All the children were given their drawers with their books and learning packs and all week they have shown me how responsible they are looking after their school belongings.

The work that has been produced has been fantastic! We have looked at place value in maths, learning the value of tens and ones and because Miss Kenney loves food we called the tens sticks - chips and the ones - peas. In English, we looked at two of the main characters in our new book ‘Rabbit and Bear’ and then turned to non –fiction texts to learn about the different features.

We have also had busy afternoons. In science we discussed how we can tell if something is alive, dead and things that were once alive. In Geography, we looked at maps of Potters Bar and started discussing different types of maps.

Next week…

We have lots of fun things planned for next week including an outside Geography lesson where we will make a map of our school. We will also begin writing our non-fiction text on bears; as soon as we are happy with our writing we can begin using the green screen! In maths, we will continue with place value making sure we are confident with numbers up to 100.

Anyone who was not able to share their amazing summer jars this week will get a chance to share those. So far, they have been fantastic and it has been so lovely to hear and see what everyone got up to over the summer holidays.

Timetable

Apologies there has been a slight change in our PE timetable. PE will now be on a Monday and Thursday.

Spelling & Homework

Over the next few weeks, we will be ensuring we know our high frequency words so we are confident when writing. Please learn these spellings for next week. We will have a spelling quiz on Friday.
