This week …. In maths this week we worked really hard understanding how to read and create our own tally charts and pictograms. We needed to use our knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to help us with our pictograms which we will continue to practise after half term. In English, we finished ‘How To Find Gold’ which we were all very excited about. Our last piece of work was adding text including some small pieces of speech to one of the last pictures in the book. Our writing has really come on this term and I am super proud of what you have achieved. During topic lessons this week we learned about Pablo Picasso. We looked at lots of his work and discussed what we thought we then created our own Picasso style portrait and they were amazing.
Spelling and Homework
Over the next few weeks we will be ensuring we know our high frequency words so we are confident when writing. Please learn these spellings for the Friday after half term.
-pull -full -door -poor -find
We are actively promoting reading for pleasure this year and would like the children to take the opportunity to read as much as possible. Research states that there is just as much to be gained from parents reading to children as there is from having children read to adults. So, if you get the chance to, then please try to read as a family.
We have just updated our reading books in class so it will be easy to change your book and choose a book that interests you. Remember you can change your book whenever you need to but please make sure you bring your reading record in every day for me to check and sign during guided reading.
This week we have been reading:
· How To Find Gold (as part of our English work)
· Matilda (Our voted for class book for next week- if you have a copy please feel free to bring in and read along with us)
Our English book for next term is still a surprise!
Next week… After half term we will be going onto a new topic ‘Underwater World’. We will be learning about the 7 continents and the 5 oceans. We will also have a strong art focus looking at a sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor. We will be creating our own underwater sculptor after we have learned how to manipulate, carve and attach clay using different tools. In maths, we will begin the term with division before moving on to fractions.
I have had an amazing first half a term at Wroxham and would like to say thank you for you all making me feel so welcome. Have a lovely half term.
